Preparatory Department is a structural unit of the Dean’s Office for international students. The history of the Department starts since the early 1960s, when future international students of the First Moscow Medical Institute and other HEIs of biomedical profile were enrolled to get training in the Russian language and core subjects of medical specialties. During these years the Department has created a wonderful tradition of assisting students not only in learning the Russian language but also in their adaptation in the new socio-cultural environment.
Training at the Preparatory Department is conducted in accordance with the programme of pre-university education for foreign nationals who are preparing to enter the universities of medico-biological profile for undergraduate studies, internship and residency. They are trained Russian as a foreign language, chemistry, biology and physics.
A special course “Language of the specialty” is offered to future interns and residents. Progress and knowledge acquired in all disciplines is controlled in the form of tests, control works and colloquiums.
In June the Preparatory Department students sit for final exams in the Russian language, chemistry and biology. On successful passing the examinations they receive a “Certificate of Completion of Preparatory Department for international students”, which gives an advantage when enrolling for undergraduate education at I.M. Sechenov First MSMU over other applicants who have scored equal points in entrance tests, but do not have such a certificate.
